Do I need owner FR44 or non-owner FR44?
If a vehicle is registered in your name, you need an owner FR44. If no vehicle sits in your name, non-owner is usually the policy that satisfies the DHSMV without insuring a car you do not have.
Owner coverage is for people who own, lease, or keep a car titled to them. It can also carry comprehensive and collision if a lender wants that. Non-owner follows you as a driver on borrowed or rented cars at the 100/300/50 limits. It does not buy the other person's car a new bumper.
We've talked to people who got talked into insuring a parent's car as if it were theirs. That is how you pay owner money for a non-owner problem. Carrier rules on household cars can be picky, so we ask who is on the title before we pick a product.
We shop 15+ carriers for both types and file electronically the same day you purchase.
