What does the DHSMV receive when my FR44 is filed?
The DHSMV receives an electronic FR44 from your carrier. It is a digital transmission, not a folder of paper you drop on a counter.
It confirms your name, the policy number, the effective dates, and that the liability is at least 100/300/50. You do not file it yourself. You do not mail it. In most cases you do not need to carry a physical certificate into a DHSMV office for the filing step.
We've talked to people who were told to print something and stand in line. The modern path is the carrier sending it straight into the state system. We handle that the same day you purchase. The DHSMV still has to post it on their side, and that confirmation can lag.
